Sing to the Lord a New Song
Saturday, 24th April @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm£20
In times of distress the Psalms have long provided a source of encouragement. They reflect so much of our human experience whilst setting that in the context of God’s workings with creation – not avoiding the darkness by focussing on the light but enabling us to hold them together in the Divine Will.
This Quiet Day will utilise psalms to guide us through Fear and Trust, Loneliness and Abandonment, and Thankfulness and Praise. The day will begin and end in Prayer and there will be various spiritual exercises offered in which participants can share.
Whilst there are many translations available, John-Francis will be using that appearing in ‘Celebrating Common Prayer’, which is the version found in the Standard BCP of the Episcopal Church in the USA.
After a career in business, John-Francis Friendship entered Religious Life in 1976 and spent 25 years with the (Anglican) Society of S. Francis and was ordained to the priesthood. From 2001 – 2011 he was Rector of a parish in Romford, London during which time he was released from my Vows. He is now a member of the Franciscan Third Order and, in addition to priestly ministry, offers Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Supervision. For 13 years he taught at the London Centre for Spiritual Direction as well as developing and co-delivering Exploring Christian Spirituality. In 2018 his first book, Enfolded in Christ – the Inner Life of a Priest was published by Canterbury Press and his second, The Mystery of Faith – Introducing Christian Belief, in 2019. A third in this ‘trilogy’, What Do You Seek – Treasures of Religious Life will be published in the autumn of 2021. He also leads Quiet Days, Retreats and day Courses and continues to assist in parishes when invited.
