Drop in day

Not going on holiday? Then why not find refreshment here at the Retreat House. Led by Rev Canon John Howden

When you have nothing to say, say nothing ...

In a world full of noise, quiet is a precious gift. Yet we have become so used to the noise that we have forgotten how to be quiet. Some say they are frightened by silence. Most of us find it very hard to set aside our busy ordered lives. Yet in silence we can often find the answers to our dilemmas. Come and enjoy a few hours of quiet in the beautiful surroundings of Pleshey and the Retreat House. Come and walk with God and don't bring your diary or phone! There will be some worship and prayer led by Canon John Howden and plenty of space for you. There will be the hospitality of the house and the countryside to explore.

John was born of missionary parents in Iran. Trained as an architect in London and became a scenic artist and costume designer in the professional theatre. Offered for Ordination and after 2 curacies joined the BBC as a journalist, broadcaster and trainer of radio staff. Came back to parish ministry for 19 years that included 9 years as Warden of Pleshey. In retirement he makes films, paints and draws, loves jazz and red wine, the company of family and friends and a good laugh.

"In everything there is a season; a time to be silent and a time to speak" (Ecclesiastes 3.8)

This event is open to everyone. (If you would like to combine this with an overnight stay please contact The Retreat House office direct 01245 237251)
