A Retreat to explore ideas of discipleship, pilgrimage and worship through images.
Led by Rev Roger Matthews. Through most of Christian history, artists have used two dimensional images as expressions of their own faith and as a means of encouraging and informing the faith of others. Think of Painters, Iconographers and Stained Glass creators and the impact they have made to our understanding of spirituality.
This retreat is for those who enjoy taking photographs and want to explore the connection with prayer and spirituality. You don’t need to be an expert photographer or to have an expensive camera – all that is needed is an attitude of curiosity to see things in new ways and the ability to share your photos with others (on an SD-card or over WiFi).
We will worship and reflect together each day and have plenty of time to take photographs. There will be a ‘show and tell’ evening on Saturday. As we spend time together, my hope is that we will draw closer to God and become better and more expressive photographers.
Roger has spent his entire ordained ministry in the Diocese of Chelmsford in various leadership roles is now happily retired and living in Colchester. He is a member of the Retreat House Advisory Board. Roger’s interest in photography goes back to university days and now uses both a phone and a mirrorless camera. Particular interests are in travel and candid photography.
