A Quiet Day retreat using sound and music to deepen our inner listening
Led by Abby Wollston.
“Contemplation…. is a deep resonance in the inmost centre of our spirit in which our very life loses its separate voice and resounds with the majesty and the mercy of the Hidden and Living One” ~ Thomas Merton
Allowing ourselves the gift of sound, in a supported space, can open us to revelation, offering us new experiences of knowing in a way that can transcend words. Music can thaw hardened attitudes to ourselves and lovingly give us what we don’t yet know we need.
During the day we will explore how we can gently deepen listening to ourselves, to each other and sense music as supporting us in opening to God through taking part in gently guided, playful creative activities and reflections.
We will be making sounds together using musical forms that can deepen our sense of inner space. Listening to music will be offered through meaningful guided practices that can develop our inner receptivity.
No musical experience or skill is needed. An openness to playing and a willingness to respond to sounds while drawing will be encouraged.
Abby’s approach is formed by her rich experiences as a professional cellist and her role as a freelance Music and Imagery Therapist. She is inspired by the profound, wordless musical connections with non-verbal people. She works therapeutically with children and young people in educational settings and with adults in private practice.
The day can be combined with an overnight stay or two at the House. If you would like this please contact the Retreat House direct 01245 237251.
