A reflective Quiet Day
Led by Ian Cartwright. The Quiet Day is based on his novel, Scent and Stone, a work of biblical fiction set during the time of Nehemiah. Published by Malcolm Down Publishing, the novel follows Keziah, a young woman whose gifts, faith and courage are tested as Jerusalem begins the work of rebuilding its walls. Through her story, readers discover that God is not only rebuilding a city; He is also rebuilding lives.
Scent and Stone is a reflective journey through the first eight chapters of Nehemiah, told through the eyes of a family involved in rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls in 450 BC. The story explores two powerful biblical images: stone, representing the parts of our lives shaped by struggle, loss, endurance and transformation; and scent, representing God’s lingering presence, which heals and draws us into deeper relationship with Him. Together, these images offer a framework for exploring spiritual growth, resilience, identity and discipleship.
The retreat is designed for those seeking a day of reflection, renewal and encounter with God. It combines biblical teaching, guided prayer, personal reflection, creative exercises, silence and optional discussion.
