A Day to discover fresh insights into the writings of CS Lewis.
This Quiet Day Retreat Workshop will be led by Robert Elliott. We will focus our attention on some of the key themes in C S Lewis’s writings. We shall then consider how these speak into our lives as Christians in today’s post-Christian society.
When C S Lewis died (on 22 November 1963 - the day that President Kennedy was assassinated) - he left behind a remarkable body of published works, ranging from the ever-popular children’s series The Chronicles of Narnia to works of scholarship that have become classics in their field.
The day will include:
A review of the life of CS Lewis and the influences on his life and writings.
Exploring the themes of Joy and Wonder.
Exploring Lewis’s idea of Shadowlands and his perception of Heaven.
Encouragement to look deeply into the writings CS Lewis and their relevance for the Christian life.
Discover fresh perspectives on Lewis’s insights of a life joyfully lived.
The day will be a mix of interactive and ideas sessions along with opportunities to work in small groups, and also time for personal reflection.
Robert is a semi-retired University lecturer with a longtime amateur interest in the works of CS Lewis. He has led workshops on CS Lewis. His passion is working in a way that enables full engagement interactively and that challenges, and promotes ‘thinking Christianly’, and lively and thoughtful debate. Robert has been married to Elizabeth for over 50 years and together they enjoy learning and growing together as they find God in all things.
The day can be combined with an overnight stay or two at the House. If you would like this please contact the Retreat House direct 01245 237251.
