Watercolour and Prayer workshop

Led by Rev Elsie Bouffler.

Using basic watercolour painting, this workshop will help us to reflect and explore ways of being with God by painting from nature.

Each session will begin with a short reflection, using poetry and images. There will be some short, simple, led creative exercises with watercolour followed by free time to paint, sketch, and experiment with watercolour, using nature around us.

No experience with watercolour is needed. The focus is not on what we produce, but on the process. Materials will be provided. The hope is, that people will enjoy time out to be creative and leave with a sense of how painting can help us become attentive to God’s still, small voice.

Elsie is Associate Priest at St Mary’s, Great Dunmow, and St Andrew’s, Barnston.
Watercolour sketching and painting have become an important part of her own prayer life and reflection, helping her to be attentive to where God is at work. She finds that painting - inspired by the beauty of God’s creation can be a joyful way to express the “deeper things of God.” For several years, as part of her ministry, she has run local “Time Out” contemplative art sessions, and work with church and community to create in seasonal visual art projects, that share the gospel in new ways.

If you wish to have add an overnight stay or two, please contact The Retreat House office direct 01245 237251.
